We provide fortified milk for the residents that are struggling to gain or hold their weight and offer this 4 times a day and fortify meals on unit level for the residents that need it. We work alongside the SALTs and dietitian teams to make sure that the residents get the right meal and dietary plans that suit their individual needs, and this is reviewed on a regular basis.

We provide two mains’ options with a selection of vegetables and a dessert option every lunchtime and have a wide range of choices if a resident has a preference on that day, we provide vegetarian options and meet the needs of anyone who has allergens when it comes to lactose and gluten-free etc.

After lunch, we send out an afternoon tea trolley and provide fresh home baking a selection of prepared fruits and pureed options for the residents that requires a different dietary option to their personal needs. We offer two options for dinner freshly made soup and sandwiches and another main, there is also a lighter menu providing jacket potatoes, toasties omelettes etc, and a range of ice cream fruit and yoghurts.

At Westerton for any reason, your loved ones become unwell we provide a family trolly which has a selection of sandwiches, snacks, tea and coffee and refreshments and lap trays as we also offer a hot meal off the trolly if required, should you wish to stay overnight there is a male and female wash bag, an iPad, and an airbed to allow you to spend as much quality time with your loved ones.

We also have a Hostess on each floor of the Care Home. The Hostesses are there to provide additional snacks and drinks and cater for weight gain or weight loss. The girls are fabulous and over the Summer months they are around giving cold drinks and ice pops and ice creams to all the residents, visitors and the staff.

For any residents at high risk of dehydration, we have red jugs in the residents’ bedrooms. All the staff at Westerton identify the red jugs to residents that need extra support and encouragement to drink and everyone from the Domestic Team, Laundry Team, Care Staff, Nurses, Managers, Kitchen Assistants and Administrators if they are visiting that particular resident will sit with then and offer a drink, it all adds up and as a team, we know that working together is all in the best interest of the residents.
